Management Solutions

Staffing and hiring is one of the most challenging jobs of a manager, and likely one of the most important. One of the most sought after management solutions is an answer to the problem of choosing the right person for each open position, to increase productivity and reduce employee turnover. This is a complex problem that plagues many companies and finding an answer is critical to the company's growth and development.

Before beginning to review applications or resumes, or even to advertise an available position, outline your perfect candidate and create a list of benchmarks. These will be the standards that you compare your candidates against and will help you to decide which people will be the best fit for your company and positions.

Interview every applicant that meets your minimum requirements. Even if the rest of their resume is less than impressive, remember that an application or resume is simply a piece of paper. Some people may embellish, while others will understate their qualifications. By having a face to face interview, you can get a better reading of their personality, qualifications, and how much of their resume is the truth and what is fiction.

Always schedule those who you are seriously considering for a second interview. Getting a second look at a candidate or even having someone else offer a second opinion can reveal things that you missed within the first meeting. This would be a good time to let them do more of the talking and have them ask you questions about company policies, benefits, and other things that might be important to them. By seeing what they are looking for in a job, you can determine if they will be a good fit for your company.

Once the management solutions for a hiring and retention problem are found, managers and executives will quickly see an increase in profitability and productivity for the entire company. Though there may be other obstacles that stand in the path toward a successful business, once positions are being filled with the right individuals, many of those issues will work out on their own.
